    IFRD1 (Interferon Related Developmental Regulator 1 (IFRD1))

    Alternative Name

    Tis7

    Background

Tis7/IFRD1 (interferon-related developmental regulator 1) is expressed by neutrophils as a key modifier gene in cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease. It functions as a transcriptional co-activator/repressor that controls the growth and differentiation of specific cell types during embryonic development and tissue regeneration. In skeletal muscle cells, Tis7 is known to function as a coactivator of MyoD by promoting the transcriptional activity of myocyte enhancer factor 2C (MEF2C). Mutations in Tis7 are associated with sensory/motor neuropathy with ataxia.
