Background
- HOXA9 is part of the A cluster of the homeobox family of DNA-binding transcription factors. This protein may play a role in gene expression, morphogenesis, and embryonic development. It and the fusion oncogene NUP98-HOXA9 have been implicated in leukemia. SMAD4 has been shown to negatively regulate HOXA9-mediated leukemia stem cell growth.
