Application Notes
- The antibody binds specifically to human GPIIb/IIIa, and integrin complex of membrane glycoproteins expressed on the surface of platelets. The GPIIb/IIIa complex acts as a receptor for fibrinogen and Von Willebran factor, hemostatic glycoproteins that mediate platelet aggregation and blood coagulation. The monoclonal antibody 10E5 inhibits the binding of fibrinogen to its platelet receptor, preventing the platelet aggregation, to be used during coronary artery surgeries such as angioplasty. The antibody is also useful in the study of the disease Glanzmann's thrombasthenia, caused by defects in GPIIb/IIIa, and of immune thrombocytopenic purpura, where autoantibodies are produced against GPIIb/IIIa.
