Background
- Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a newly-discovered the strain of Lineage B of Betacoronaviruses causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). SARS-CoV-2 is a positive-sense single stranded RNA virus infecting humans and spreading between people through close contact and via respiratory droplets produced from coughs, sneezes and even speaking. It enters human cells by binding to the receptor angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). The Nucleocapsid protein is a structural protein holding the RNA genome.
