Immunogen
- A fluorescently conjugated single-domain antibody that recognizes mouse and rat GFAP. The single-domain antibody carries two fluorophores and is equipped with specially designed linkers to work in expansion microscopy or enhance post-staining fixation for applications like dSTORM and DNA-PAINT.
-
Labeling Ratio
- Two site-specifically conjugated fluorophores per sdAb.

Comment
-
Two site-specifically coupled fluorophores per molecule. The reagent can therefore simultaneously target two fluorophores to your protein of interest, which results in enhanced image brightness. Owing to the small size of the sdAb, the distance between the target epitope and each fluorophore is below 4 nm. In comparison to conventional detection systems using conventional antibodies, this sdAb can thus improve the localization accuracy by 10-15 nm. Both features - enhanced brightness and precise fluorophore placement - renders this product superior tools for all microscopy techniques.

Storage Comment
- Vials containing lyophilized protein can be stored at 4 °C for 6 months. We recommend reconstituting the protein with 50 % sterile glycerol including 0.1 % sodium azide as preservative if applicable. Minimize the number of freeze-thaw cycles by aliquoting the reconstituted protein. Long term storage at -80 °C for up to 6 months. Working aliquots can be stored at -20 °C for up to 4 weeks. We do not recommend storing the reconstituted protein at 4 °C.

Alternative Name
- GFAP

Background
- Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) belongs to type III intermediate filaments (like vimentin) and is expressed in various cell types throughout the human body. However, in the central nervous system, it is almost exclusively present in astrocytes, resulting in an important marker to differentiate neurons from astrocytes. GFAP is used primarily as an excellent astrocyte cellular marker.
