Background
Background: HURP/DLG7 (Hepatoma Up-Regulated Protein/Disks Large Homolog 7) is a member of the MAGUK (membrane-associated guanylate kinase) family of scaffolding proteins. There are seven DLG homologs in mammals that play important roles in regulating proliferation, epithelial cell polarity, cell adhesion, and synapse formation. HURP/DLG7 has been identified as a microtubule-associated protein (MAP) that colocalizes with the mitotic spindle and functions as a mitotic regulator. HURP/DLG7 is required for microtubule attachment and efficient capture of kinetochores, as well as timely chromosome congression. HURP/DLG7 is up-regulated in human cancer cells and may contribute to tumorigenesis.
