Background
- Background: Fatty acid synthase (FASN) is a multifunctional protein that is mainly involved in catalyzing the synthesis of long-chain fatty acids. FASN has recently been viewed as an important protein involved in carcinogenesis as it has been found to be constitutively active in subsets of carcinomas and is associated with a poor prognosis. The inhibition of FASN activity in cancer cells promotes apoptosis and thus may play a role in maintaining cancer cell survival.
