Background
- Background: Rad21, also called SCC1 (sister chromatid cohesion protein 1), is part of the mitotic cohesin complex that consist of SMC1, SMC3, SCC3 and SCC1. The cohesin complex is important to sister chromatid separation and segregation during mitosis and meiosis and also plays a role in double-strand break repair by homologous recombination. Rad21 has been demonstrated to be cleaved by caspase proteins to trigger sister chromatid separation and during apoptotic signaling.
