  • Target

    ISR-beta (Insulin Receptor beta (ISR-beta))

    Alternative Name

    Insulin Receptor Beta

    Background

Background: The insulin receptor is a receptor tyrosine kinase that mediates the pleiotropic actions of insulin. Binding of insulin leads to phosphorylation of several intracellular substrates, including, insulin receptor substrates (IRS1, 2, 3, 4), SHC, GAB1, CBL and other signaling intermediates to stimulate uptake of glucose. The insulin receptor is synthesized as a single polypeptide that is cleaved to generate an alpha and beta subunit. The subunit structure of the insulin receptor consists of a tetramer of two alpha and two beta chains linked by disulfide bonds.
