    Background

Background: PITX1 is a homeobox-containing transcription factor involved in the development of many organs. PITX1 has been demonstrated to play a critical role in pituitary organogenesis and can stimulate transcription from most pituitary hormone promoters. PITX1 has also been shown to stimulate the leutinizing hormone (LH)-beta gene promoter and may serve an important role in reproductive gene expression.
