    Background

Background: mRNA-decapping enzyme 1B (DCP1B) may play a role in the degradation of mRNAs, both in normal mRNA turnover and in nonsense-mediated mRNA decay. It may remove the 7-methyl guanine cap structure from mRNA molecules, yielding a 5'-phosphorylated mRNA fragment and 7m-GDP (by similarity) [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) Q8IZD4].
