    AEG1

    Background

Background: Astrocyte elevated gene-1 protein (AEG1) is also known as metadherin. AEG1 AEG1 promotes anchorage-independent growth of immortalized melanocytes and astrocytes which is a key component in tumor cell expansion. It also promotes lung metastasis and has an effect on bone and brain metastasis, possibly by enhancing the seeding of tumor cells to the target organ endothelium. AEG1 induces chemoresistance.
