Background
- Background: POLR3E (RNA polymerase III polypeptide E 80 kDa) is a DNA-dependent RNA polymerase that catalyzes the transcription of DNA into RNA using the four ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates. POLR3E is a specific peripheric component of RNA polymerase III which synthesizes small RNAs, such as 5S rRNA and tRNAs. It is essential for efficient transcription from both the type 2 VAI and type 3 U6 RNA polymerase III promoters. POLR3E plays a key role in sensing and limiting infection by intracellular bacteria and DNA viruses [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) Q9NVU0].
