    CRY1 (Cryptochrome 1 (Photolyase-Like) (CRY1))

    Alternative Name

    Cry1

    Background

Background: Cryptochrome 1 (Cry1) is a blue light-dependent regulator of the circadian feedback loop. It inhibits CLOCK|NPAS2-ARNTL E box-mediated transcription and acts in conjunction with CRY2 in maintaining period length and circadian rhythmicity. Cry1 has no photolyase activity. It is capable of translocating circadian clock core proteins such as PER proteins to the nucleus [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) Q16526].
