    Background

Background: JARID1D is a member of the jumonji (jmj) domain containing gene family of histone demethylases that plays a role in chromatin regulation and influences transcriptional activation and suppression. JARID1D maps to the azoospermia factor region (AZF) on the Y chromosome and thus is also known as SMCY (selected mouse cDNA on Y chromosome) homolog. Jarid1D displays histone H3K4 demethylase activity and may have male specific functions.
