    Periplakin/PPL

    Background

Background: Periplakin is a protein that localizes to the desmosomes and interdesomosomal plasma membrane of keratinocytes in the cornified layer of the epidermis. Periplakin belongs to the plakin family of cytolinker proteins that function as a link between cytoskeletal networks and membrane-associated adhesive sites. Periplakin has been reported to interact with AKT1/PKB and may function in facilitating AKT1/PKB signaling.
