    Background

Background: Transcription factor E3 (TFE3) is a member of the microphthalmia transcription factor/transcription factor E (MITF-TFE) family of basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper (bHLH-Zip) transcription factors. This family includes four members: MITF, TFE3, TFEB and TFEC. TFE3 activates transcription through binding to the muE3 motif of the immunoglobulin heavy-chain enhancer [taken from NCBI Entrez Gene (GeneID: 7030)].
