    Background

Background: FHL2 is a member of the four-and-a-half-LIM-domain protein family which consists of FHL1, FHL2, FHL3, FHL4, and ACT. The LIM domain is a cysteine-rich motif that mediates protein-protein interactions. FHL2 has been shown to function as a transcriptional cofactor and through its LIM domains, interact with a variety of factors which include the androgen receptor, CREB, AP-1, Runx3, SRF, FOXO1, BRCA1 and the HPV-16 E7 oncoprotein. FHL2 has been demonstrated to play an important role in heart and bone development and may influence cancer cell growth.
