    Background

    Background: RECQ5 is one of five human homologs of RecQ DNA helicases. RecQ helicases function in DNA replication and repair and are important to genomic stability. Mutations in the genes encoding BLM (RECQL2), WRN (RECQL3), and RECQL4 result in a predisposition to cancer. No heritable disease has been found to be associated with RECQL5.
