Target Description: Calcium/Calmodulin-Dependent Serine Protein Kinase or CASK scaffolding protein is encoded by the gene CASK. CASK is a member of the MAGUK (membrane-associated guanylate kinase) protein family. CASK is a a calcium/calmodulin-dependent serine protein kinase. CASK is found in many different tissues including kidney, lung, liver and brain. In the brain, CASK protein is located at synapses. CASK acts as a multidomain scaffolding protein with a role in synaptic transmembrane protein anchoring and ion channel trafficking. Mutations in this gene are associated with FG syndrome 4, microcephaly with pontine and cerebellar hypoplasia, and a form of X-linked intellectual disability.
