Background
-
Synonyms: Neuroligin-1 (Neuroligin I)
Target Description: Neuroligin 1 is a member of a large family of alternatively sliced proteins located at the post synaptic surface in the central nervous system, and stains as a post synaptic marker. Neuroligin 1 is involved in cell-cell-interactions by binding to neurexin family members and other postsynaptic proteins to localize receptors and channels in the postsynaptic density. Suggested roles for Neuroligin 1 include synapse function and synaptic signal transmission and maintaining synapse integrity. Mutations in Neuroligans have been implicated in autism and other cognitive disorders.
