Background
- IDS, as known asiduronate 2-sulfatase isoform, isa member of the highly conserved sulfatase family of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of O-sulfate and N-salfate esters from a varity of substrates. This protein is required for the lysosomal degradation of the glycosaminoglycans (GAG) heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate. It hydrolyzes the 2-sulfate group of the IDS units of the GAG.
