Synonyms: Activator of 90 kDa heat shock protein ATPase homolog 1, AHA1, p38, AHSA1, C14orf3, HSPC322
Tissue Specificity: Expressed in numerous tissues, including brain, heart, skeletal muscle and kidney and, at lower levels, liver and placenta.
Background: Interferon-induced guanylate-binding protein 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GBP2 gene. This gene belongs to the guanine-binding protein (GBP) family, which includes interferon-induced proteins that can bind to guanine nucleotides (GMP, GDP and GTP). The encoded protein is a GTPase which hydrolyzes GTP, predominantly to GDP. The protein may play a role as a marker of squamous cell carcinomas.
