  • Target

    PIGR (Polymeric Immunoglobulin Receptor (PIGR))

    Alternative Name

    Pigr

    Background

Synonyms: Polymeric immunoglobulin receptor, PIgR, Poly-Ig receptor, Secretory component, Pigr

Tissue Specificity: Expressed in all tissues examined.

Background: Polymeric immunoglobulin receptor (pIgR) is a transmembrane protein that in humans is encoded by the PIGR gene. It is mapped to 1 E4, 1 56.89 cM. This gene is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. The encoded poly-Ig receptor binds polymeric immunoglobulin molecules at the basolateral surface of epithelial cells, the complex is then transported across the cell to be secreted at the apical surface. A significant association was found between immunoglobulin A nephropathy and several SNPs in this gene.
