  • Target

    TMEM59 (Transmembrane Protein 59 (TMEM59))

    Alternative Name

    TMEM59

    Background

    Synonyms: B-cell differentiation antigen CD72, Lyb-2, CD72, CD72

Tissue Specificity: Pre-B-cells and B-cells but not terminally differentiated plasma cells.

Background: Transmembrane protein 59 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TMEM59 gene. This gene encodes a protein shown to regulate autophagy in response to bacterial infection. This protein may also regulate the retention of amyloid precursor protein (APP) in the Golgi apparatus through its control of APP glycosylation. Overexpression of this protein has been found to promote apoptosis in a glioma cell line. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
