Background
-
Synonyms: CREB-regulated transcription coactivator 2, Transducer of regulated cAMP response element-binding protein 2, TORC-2, Transducer of CREB protein 2, CRTC2, TORC2
Tissue Specificity: Most abundantly expressed in the thymus. Present in both B and T-lymphocytes. Highly expressed in HEK293T cells and in insulinomas. High levels also in spleen, ovary, muscle and lung, with highest levels in muscle. Lower levels found in brain, colon, heart, kidney, prostate, small intestine and stomach. Weak expression in liver and pancreas.
Background: ALDH3A1(Aldehyde Dehydrogenase, Family 3, Subfamily A, Member 1), also known as ALDH3, is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the ALDH3A1 gene. By in situ hybridization, Hiraoka et al.(1995) mapped the ALDH3 gene to 17p11.2. ALDHs play a major role in the detoxification of alcohol-derived acetaldehyde. They are involved in the metabolism of corticosteroids, biogenic amines, neurotransmitters, and lipid peroxidation. This protein preferentially oxidizes aromatic aldehyde substrates. It may play a role in the oxidation of toxic aldehydes.
