  • Target

    NAPRT1 (NAPRT) (Nicotinate phosphoribosyltransferase (NAPRT))

    Alternative Name

    NAPRT

    Background

    Synonyms: Neutrophil defensin 1,Defensin, alpha 1,HNP-1,HP-1,HP1,HP 1-56,Neutrophil defensin 2,HNP-2,HP-2,HP2,DEFA1,DEF1, DEFA2, MRS,DEFA1B,

Tissue Specificity: Expressed in immature but not mature T-cells. Also found in CD34+ cells from peripheral blood, CD34+ precursors from umbilical cord blood and adult bone marrow.

Background: Nicotinic acid (NA, niacin) is converted by nicotinic acid phosphoribosyltransferase (NAPRT, EC 2.4.2.11) to NA mononucleotide (NaMN), which is then converted to NA adenine dinucleotide (NaAD), and finally to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), which serves as a coenzyme in cellular redox reactions and is an essential component of a variety of processes in cellular metabolism including response to stress.
