  • Target

    GAP43 (Growth Associated Protein 43 (GAP43))

    Alternative Name

    GAP43

    Background

    Synonyms: Neuromodulin, Axonal membrane protein GAP-43, Growth-associated protein 43, Neural phosphoprotein B-50, pp46, GAP43

Tissue Specificity: Isoform 1 and isoform 2 are expressed in liver, colon and small intestine. Isoform 2 but not isoform 1 is expressed in kidney. Isoform 1 and isoform 2 are not expressed in esophagus. Not expressed in skin.

Background: Growth Associated Protein 43 (GAP43) is a protein encoded by the GAP43 gene in humans. It is mapped to 3q13.31. The protein encoded by this gene has been termed a 'growth' or 'plasticity' protein because it is expressed at high levels in neuronal growth cones during development and axonal regeneration. This protein is considered a crucial component of an effective regenerative response in the nervous system. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene.
