Background: Decorin is a member of the small, leucine rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family along with biglycan. Found in the interterritorial region of cartilage, decorin interacts with collagen and other matrix proteins to regulate the cartilaginous matrix. It has been shown to interact with fibronectin, thrombospondin, C1q, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), and TGF beta. It is believed that decorin also plays a role in the cell cycle of chondrocytes. Also known as: Decorin, Bone proteoglycan II, CSCD, DCN, DCN protein, Dermatan sulphate proteoglycans II, DKFZp686J19238, DSPG 2, DSPG2, PG 40, PG II, PG S2, PG40, PGII, PGS 2, PGS2, Proteoglycan core protein, SLRR1B, Small leucine rich protein 1B.
