Purpose
- Anti-Plasmodium, pan-LDH (PLAS-0349)
-
Specificity
- Anti-Plasmodium (Clone PLAS-0349) is specific for the parasite lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH) of several Plasmodium species including P. falciparum, P. malariae, and P. vivax. Background Plasmodium is a genus of parasitic protozoa that causes the disease malaria, a significant global health concern. There are several species of Plasmodium that can infect humans with the most common being P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae, and P. ovale. The parasite is transmitted by the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Once inside the host, the parasite infects and multiplies within red blood cells. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an important diagnostic marker used for the detection of malaria. It can be measured through various diagnostic methods including rapid diagnostic tests.
