Background
- Enables several functions, including C5-methylcytidine-containing RNA reader activity, eukaryotic initiation factor 4E binding activity, and methyl-CpG binding activity. Involved in embryonic morphogenesis, mRNA stabilization, and negative regulation of translation. Acts upstream of or within establishment of RNA localization, negative regulation of mRNA splicing, via spliceosome, and negative regulation of translational initiation. Located in P-body and nucleus. Is expressed in blastoderm, blastodisc, blastomere, eye, and telencephalon. Orthologous to several human genes including YBX1 (Y-box binding protein 1).
