Synonyms: 5-HT-3, 5-HT3 receptor subunit E splice variant HTR3Ea, 5-HT3c1, 5-HT3E, 5-HT3R, 5-hydroxytryptamine serotonin receptor 3, family member E, 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3 subunit E, 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3E, 5HT3c1, 5HT3E, 5HT3R, HTR3, SEROTONIN 5-HT-3E RECEPTOR, serotonin receptor 3 subunit E, Serotonin receptor 3E.
Background: HTR3C belongs to the ligand-gated ion channel receptor superfamily. HTR3E is a subunit E of the type 3 receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. This receptor causes fast, depolarizing responses in neurons after activation. Genes encoding subunits C, D and E form a cluster on chromosome 3. An alternative splice variant has been described but its full length sequence has not been determined.
