Studied the genetic associations of human serotonin receptor gene polymorphism 5-HT2A T102C and behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) in Alzheimer's disease (AD). The TT genotype was found to be significantly associated with hallucinations, aberrant motor behavior, and psychosis in AD.
In schizophrenia patients, presence of DRD2 Taq 1 D2D2 and 5-HT2A C516T CT genotypes in patients were more likely to be associated with non-response to risperidone.
The DRD4 and 5HTR2A genes are co-expressed in Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells during antipsychotic administration. Despite a correlation between the studied biogenic amine indicators and the psychopathological status of patients, reliable biomarkers of treatment response could not be determined.
Results support the view that the serotonin system is sensitive to stress exposure and psychopathology, and HTR2A methylation may be a mechanism by which early adversity is biologically encoded.
Imbalance in 5-HT2A may cause significant disturbances that lead to an increased susceptibility to death for individuals who are over 60 years of age.
C102T (rs6313) polymorphism of 5-HTR2A gene may be involved in the susceptibility to suicide, higher number of stressful life and loss events, but A1438G (rs6311) and C1354T (rs6314) polymorphisms of 5-HTR2A gene were not associated with suicide, higher number of stressful life and loss events.
Female anorexia nervosa patients with 5-HT2A -1438AA genotype may be characterized by less severe eating-disordered psychopathological traits in the Chinese Han population.
Studied association of aggression and 5-HTTLPR, 5HTR1A, and 5HTR2A genetic polymorphisms in industrial Russian and traditional Tanzanian population groups.
The polymorphisms in HTR2A and GRIN2B (show GRIN2B Antibodies) were significantly associated with increased risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
This study further advances the understanding of genetic variation and behavioral inhibition. Specifically, findings replicated previous associations between variation in the HTR2A and ANKK1 (show ANKK1 Antibodies) genes and inhibitory control as measured by a stop signal task.
SMC (show DYM Antibodies)-rich intima as well as media directly contributes to the hypercontractile response of atherosclerotic vessels through the 5-HT(2A) receptor and the Rho-kinase (show ROCK1 Antibodies) pathway
we showed that gravity changes induced differential modulation of gene expression of BDNF (show BDNF Antibodies) and 5-HTRs (5-HT1AR, 5-HT1BR and 5-HT2AR) in some brain regions. The modulation of gene expression may constitute molecular bases that underlie behavioral alteration induced by gravity changes.
these data demonstrate that sustained SERT loss of function reduces 5-HT2AR surface expression that is critical for the synergistic activation of alphaIIbbeta3 by 5-HT and ADP.
heterodimerization with 5-HT2C receptors does not alter 5-HT2C Galphaq-dependent inositol phosphate signaling, 5-HT2A or 5-HT2B receptor-mediated signaling was totally blunted. This feature can be explained by a dominance of 5-HT2C on 5-HT2A and 5-HT2B receptor binding; in 5-HT2C-containing heterodimers, ligands bind and activate the 5-HT2C protomer exclusively.
In the present study we have demonstrated four new principal facts concerning the role of 5-HT2A receptors in thermoregulation
Allosteric signaling through an mGlu2 and 5-HT2A heteromeric receptor complex and its potential contribution to schizophrenia.
Study showed that acute stress activates 5-HT2AR expression in the mouse cortex and this activation requires the immediate early (show JUN Antibodies) gene Egr3 (show EGR3 Antibodies)
Whole-brain mapping and pharmacological screening indicated that serotonin-2A receptor (Htr2a)-expressing cells in the central amygdala (CeA (show CEA Antibodies)) control both innate and learned freezing, but in opposing directions
Study showed increased expression in striatum membranes and decreased expression in frontal cortex membranes for both DRD2 (show DRD2 Antibodies) and Htr2a from heterozygous Reelin (show RELN Antibodies) mutant mice compared to wild-type
Hippocampal mRNA expression of Htr2a is decreased in serotonin deficient mice after early life stress.
Involvement of 5-HT2 receptors in the expression of withdrawal diarrhea in morphine-dependent mice
5-HT2A receptor subtype is the predominant receptor mediating 5-HT (show DDC Antibodies) responses in ureteral tissues
The 5-HT(2A) receptor subtype is sensitive to elevated stretch.
Early weaning results in less active behaviour, accompanied by lower 5-HT1A (show HTR1A Antibodies) and higher 5-HT2A receptor mRNA expression in specific brain regions.
excitatory 5-HT(2A) and inhibitory 5-HT(7) are present in the uterus of non-pregnant pigs. Endogenous 5-HT (show DDC Antibodies) containing cells are mainly present in uterine glands of the pig
According to the results obtained, no association between the analysed polymorphism of genes: 5HTR2A (T102C), SLC6A4 (5-HTTLPR (show SLC6A4 Antibodies)) and schizophrenia was found
5-HT(2) receptors are coupled to phospholipase C (show PLC Antibodies) in bovine ciliary epithelium.

The 5-HT 2A receptor seem to be particularly involved in antigen-induced airway hyperresponsiveness(AI-AHR (show AHR Antibodies)) to ACh (show FGFR3 Antibodies) in guinea-pigs.
This gene encodes one of the receptors for serotonin, a neurotransmitter with many roles. Mutations in this gene are associated with susceptibility to schizophrenia and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and are also associated with response to the antidepressant citalopram in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). MDD patients who also have a mutation in intron 2 of this gene show a significantly reduced response to citalopram as this antidepressant downregulates expression of this gene. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
