Competitive ELISA Kits
Competitive ELISAs for the quantification of small molecules, peptides, and hormones across a wide range of sample types. In a competitive ELISA, signal intensity is inversely proportional to antigen concentration: higher analyte levels result in lower signal.
The assay is based on competition between sample antigen and plate-bound antigen for a limited amount of antibody. A primary (unlabeled) antibody is first incubated with the sample. This mixture is then added to wells pre-coated with the same antigen. The more antigen present in the sample, the fewer antibodies remain available to bind to the plate.
After washing, an enzyme-conjugated secondary antibody is added, followed by substrate development. The resulting chromogenic or fluorescent signal decreases as antigen concentration increases.
Competitive ELISA is particularly useful when no suitable antibody pair is available or when the target analyte is too small to allow simultaneous binding of capture and detection antibodies. This makes it the preferred format for small molecules, peptides, and certain hormones.
