Background

Guf1 promotes mitochondrial protein synthesis. It may act as a fidelity factor of the translation reaction, by catalyzing a one-codon backward translocation of tRNAs on improperly translocated ribosomes. It binds to mitochondrial ribosomes in a GTP-dependent manner.
