Background
- The Seventeen Kilodalton Protein (Skp) is a trimeric periplasmic chaperone that assists outer membrane proteins in their folding and insertion into membranes. This protein required for the efficient release of ompA from the inner membrane, the maintenance of its solubility in the periplasm, and, in association with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), for the efficient folding and insertion of ompA into the outer membrane. Recombinant E. coli Skp, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E. coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
