- Background
- The Seventeen Kilodalton Protein (Skp) is a trimeric periplasmic chaperone that assists outer membrane proteins in their folding and insertion into membranes. This protein required for the efficient release of ompA from the inner membrane, the maintenance of its solubility in the periplasm, and, in association with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), for the efficient folding and insertion of ompA into the outer membrane. Recombinant E.coli Skp, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques. Synonyms: Chaperone protein skp, Chaperone protein skp, periplasmic chaperone, ompH, DNA binding 17 kDa protein, ECK0177, Histone like protein HLP 1, hlpA, JW0173, Seventeen kilodalton protein.
