  • Application Notes
Each Investigator should determine their own optimal working dilution for specific applications.
    Restrictions
    For Research Use only
  • Buffer
    50 mM borax buffer, pH 9.0, with 0.02 % NaN3.
    Preservative
    Sodium azide
    Precaution of Use
WARNING: Reagents contain sodium azide. Sodium azide is very toxic if ingested or inhaled. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Wear eye or face protection when handling. If skin or eye contact occurs, wash with copious amounts of water. If ingested or inhaled, contact a physician immediately. Sodium azide yields toxic hydrazoic acid under acidic conditions. Dilute azide-containing compounds in running water before discarding to avoid accumulation of potentially explosive deposits in lead or copper plumbing.
    Handling Advice
    Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

    Background
HIV tests are used to detect the presence of the human immunodeficiency virus in serum, saliva, or urine. Such tests may detect HIV antibodies, antigens, or RNA. The p24 antigen test detects the presence of the p24 protein of HIV (also known as CA), the capsid protein of the virus. The p24 antigen test is not useful for general diagnostics, as it has very low sensitivity and only works during a certain time period after infection before the body produces antibodies to the p24 protein.
