Cell-Free Protein System

In contrast to conventional cell culture–based methods, our cell-free expression platform enables rapid and scalable production of recombinant proteins. Optimized reaction components allow yields of up to 2 grams per liter within just 48 hours. The cell-free workflow also offers maximum flexibility, supporting the targeted introduction of modifications or additives and simplifying the expression of proteins that are toxic or difficult to produce in living cells.

Your Benefits with antibodies-online:

  • Individually tailored expression – full-length proteins or specific domains, produced according to your sequence and application
  • No financial risk – no costs if expression is unsuccessful
  • Payment after delivery – no prepayment required*
  • Long-term availability – convenient reordering possible

*Prepayment conditions may apply depending on project scope and order volume.

Our cell-free system is ideally suited for time-sensitive projects, the expression of complex or toxic proteins, and applications requiring rapid optimization. With antibodies-online, you benefit from a transparent, efficient workflow and expert support from first inquiry to delivery.

Cell-Free Protein Expression System- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. What is cell-free protein expression, and how does it work?

We use cell-free protein expression approach utilizing the cell machinery of Tobacco (N. tabacum) to express high-quality recombinant proteins.

  2. What are the advantages of using a cell-free Protein Expression System?

Our eukaryotic cell-free system offers high yields in protein expression, rapid production times, and the ability to express complex or toxic proteins. In comparison to traditional cell-based expression systems cell-free expression provides a cost-effective alternative with high scalability.

  3. Can the cell-free expression system carry out complex eukaryotic post translational modifications?

Yes, we can produce almost all classes of protein, including those that are typically difficult to express. The lysate used for expression contains native microsomes derived from the endoplasmic reticulum and golgi. It is able to introduce complex eukaryotic post-translational modifications including N-glycosylation and disulfide bonds.

  4. Which protein quantities are available?

The standard quantity we offer is 250 µg for the initial production. Depending on the demands of your project we scale production to accommodate your needs.

  5. What quality control measures are in place to ensure the integrity of the expressed protein?

We employ rigorous quality control measures to ensure that the expressed protein meets your specifications and requirements. This includes SDS-PAGE and western blot for verification and analytical SEC using HPLC.

  6. Is the activity of the protein guaranteed?

Previous customers have provided feedback that their proteins showed active properties. However, we do not test the activity in our laboratory and therefore do not guarantee the activity.

  7. What is the turnaround time for protein expression, and does it vary based on the quantity?

The turnaround time for protein expression is roughly two months, regardless of the quantity ordered. Additional quantities can be shipped within one month after successful production. This ensures rapid delivery of your protein of interest for timely research or application needs.

  8. What happens if the protein expression is not successful?

There is no financial obligation in case the protein cannot be expressed or purified.

  9. Which protein-tags will be used?

We recommend the strep-tag for optimal purity and yield. This tag facilitates efficient protein purification while minimizing non-specific interactions. Additionally, SUMOstar or MBP-tags may be used to increase solubility of the protein if required. If you already have worked with a certain tag we are happy to consider your feedback.

  10. Can the protein be provided without tag?

Sadly, no. While we can include a TEV cleavage site in the construct to enable tag cleavage, we will not remove the tag as part of our production process.

  11. How is the purified protein shipped, and what is the storage recommendation?

The expressed protein is shipped on dry ice to maintain stability during transit. Upon receipt, it should be stored at -80°C according to the shipment instructions.
