  1. Given that acetylated GKRP (show GCKR Antibodies) may affiliate with type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), understanding the mechanism of GKRP (show GCKR Antibodies) acetylation in the liver could reveal novel targets within the GK-GKRP (show GCKR Antibodies) pathway, for treating T2DM and other metabolic pathologies.

  2. These results suggest a mechanism for integrative control over GCK activation and, therefore, glucose metabolism and insulin (show INS Antibodies) secretion through regulation of cytoplasmic Ca(2 (show CA2 Antibodies)+) levels.

  3. GHR (show GHR Antibodies) knockdown caused increased glucokinase mRNA and protein levels.

  4. results suggest that chronic suppression of hepatic glucokinase has a small influence on intertissue (liver-to-BAT (show BAAT Antibodies) as well as liver-to-beta-cell) metabolic communication

  5. Atf3 (show ATF3 Antibodies)-silencing reversed ethanol-mediated Gck down-regulation and beta-cell dysfunction, followed by the amelioration of impaired glucose tolerance and insulin (show INS Antibodies) resistance.

  3. The results of this study showed that mutations in the GCK gene are the leading cause of maturity-onset diabetes of the young in our population

  4. DR of any degree was not present in our GCK-MODY (show HNF4A Antibodies) group, while in spite of young age almost every fourth subject with HNF1A (show HNF1A Antibodies)-MODY (show HNF4A Antibodies) showed signs of this complication.

  5. Complete sequencing of the GCK gene, carried out in the patient, identified a novel mutation c.1268T>A (p.Phe423Tyr) in exon 10 of the gene GCK in heterozygosity. Further studies revealed the same mutation in her mother and maternal grandfather

  6. Thus, a glucokinase activator drug therapy may help MODY2 patients not in general, but seems to be a useful strategy for carriers of the L315H glucokinase mutation.

GCK Antigen Profile

Protein Summary

Hexokinases phosphorylate glucose to produce glucose-6-phosphate, the first step in most glucose metabolism pathways. Alternative splicing of this gene results in three tissue-specific forms of glucokinase, one found in pancreatic islet beta cells and two found in liver. The protein localizes to the outer membrane of mitochondria. In contrast to other forms of hexokinase, this enzyme is not inhibited by its product glucose-6-phosphate but remains active while glucose is abundant. Mutations in this gene have been associated with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), maturity onset diabetes of the young, type 2 (MODY2) and persistent hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia of infancy (PHHI).
