  1. These data demonstrate glucose-regulated secretion of PP and its effects on glucagon (show GCG Proteins) release through PPYR1 (show PPYR1 Proteins) receptors expressed by alpha-cells.

  2. Pancreatic polypeptide is recognized by two hydrophobic domains of the human Y4 receptor (show PPYR1 Proteins) binding pocket.

  3. The diagnostic accuracy of the tumor markers CgA (show CGA Proteins), PP, and glucagon (show GCG Proteins) for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 is low.

  4. These findings underscore the important role of the NPY (show NPY Proteins)-Y receptor system at several levels of the gut (show GUSB Proteins)-brain axis in which NPY (show NPY Proteins), peptide yy and pancreatic polypeptide operate both as neural and endocrine messengers--{REVIEW}

  5. Pancreatic polypeptide (and peptide tyrosine-tyrosine) increases in obese woman on caloric restriction following high protein liquid meals compared to high carbohydrate liquid meals.

  6. Data suggest that beta-cell function improves in overweight subjects with type 2 diabetes who lose weight by dieting; this change is associated with a decrease in PPY secretion (i.e., plasma PPY is decreased).

  7. Self-association of PPY with phospholipid micelles addressed the delivery issues of the peptide for diabetes treatment.

  8. Women with bulimia nervosa have significantly lower fasting and postprandial serum concentrations of pancreatic polypeptide (and GLP-1 (show GCG Proteins)) than control subjects.

  9. 67.74% A-cells (glucagon (show GCG Proteins)-secreting cells) had PP (pancreatic polypeptide) immunoreactivity, 70.92% PP-cells contained glucagon (show GCG Proteins) immunoreactivity with immunofluorescence double staining

Pancreatic Polypeptide (PPY) Protein Profile

Protein Summary

This gene belongs to the NPY family and it encodes a protein that is synthesized as a 95 aa polypeptide precursor in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans. It is cleaved into two peptide products\; the active hormone of 36 aa and an icosapeptide of unknown function. The hormone acts as a regulator of pancreatic and gastrointestinal functions and may be important in the regulation of food intake. Plasma level of this hormone has been shown to be reduced in conditions associated with increased food intake and elevated in anorexia nervosa. In addition, infusion of this hormone in obese rodents has shown to decrease weight gain.
