Background
ABCD4 belongs to the ALD subfamily, of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters and is involved in peroxisomal import of fatty acids and/or fatty acyl-CoAs in the organelle. As the other peroxisomal ABC transporters, ABCD4 is a half transporters which requires a partner half transporter molecule to form a functional homodimeric/heterodimeric transporter. The exact function of ABCD4 is still unknown, but it may play a role in peroxisome biogenesis.Synonyms: ATP-binding cassette sub-family D member 4, P70R, PMP69, Peroxisomal membrane protein 1-like, Peroxisomal membrane protein 69
