    Background

Vitronectin is one of the 2 most important cell adhesive proteins found in the blood and extracellular matrix. It exists as a mixture of 2 monomeric glycoproteins that mediate cell adhesion through an interaction between the R-G-D sequence, present in the cell binding domains, and several different integrin receptors. It is also known as a complement lysis inhibitor an as a scavenger protein for macromolecular products of the complement and homeostasis cascades.Synonyms: S-protein, Serum-spreading factor, V75, VTN
