Background
 - Sirtuin-1 is a NAD-dependent protein deacetylase, which regulates processes such as apoptosis and muscle differentiation by deacetylating key proteins. Sirtuin-1 emerged as critical regulator of longevity and aging in several model organisms. Furthermore, a variety of age-associated diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's disease are associated with sirtuins. Sirtuin-1 has been suggested as potential biomarker for tumorigenesis.
