  • Target

    CFP (Complement Factor P (CFP))

    Alternative Name

    Properdin

    Background

Factor P binds to microbial surfaces and binds and stabilizes the complement component 3- and complement component 5-convertase enzyme complexes. C3b then acts as an opsonin or initiates the complement pathway again creating a positive feedback loop which acts only on the bacterial cell, leaving the host cells unharmed. Deficiency of factor P makes the host more susceptible to bacterial infections, particularly to Neisseria species and meningococcal infections.Synonyms: CFP, Complement factor P, PFC
