    Alternative Name

    PAX9

    Background

PAX9 (PAX-9, Paired box protein 9) is a sequence specific DNA binding transcription factor required for normal development of the thymus, parathyroid glands, teeth, portions of the skull and larynx as well as distal limbs. PAX9 is a member of the paired box (PAX) family of transcription factors, which typically contain a paired box domain, a paired type homeodomain and an octapeptide sequence.
