Background
- Argonaute 3 (Ago3, aka EIF2C3) is a member of the Argonaute family of proteins involved in RNAi mediated gene silencing through siRNA and miRNA effectors. The Argonaute proteins are part of RISC, the RNAi Induced Silencing Complex. Ago3, however, lacks RNase activity and does not appear to cleave target mRNA molecules. Ago3 has both a PAZ and a PIWI domain, indicative of the Argonaute family of proteins.
