Background
- HNF1 homeobox A (hepatocyte nuclear factor 1 homeobox A), also known as HNF1A or TCF1, is a human gene. It is mapped to chromosome 12q24.3. The protein encoded by this gene is a transcription factor that is highly expressed in the liver and is involved in the regulation of the expression of several liver-specific genes. HNF1A can function as a dimer. Deletion of the activation domains or interruption of the HNF1-binding sites in the LCT promoter resulted in complete loss of transcriptional activity.
