Background
- CEA is highly glycosylated 180 kDa glycoprotein involved in cell adhesion. It is normally produced during fetal development and then re expressed in increased amounts in colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, lung and breast carcinomas. CEA measurement is mainly used as tumor marker to identify recurrence after surgical resection.
