Background
- Snf1lk2 belongs to the Ser/Thr protein kinase family, AMPK subfamily. It has one proteinkinase domain and one UBA domain. Snf1lk2 requires magnesium as a cofactor andphosphorylates Ser-794 of IRS1 in insulin-stimulated adipocytes. This potentiallymodulates the efficiency of insulin signal transduction. It also inhibits CREB activity byphosphorylating and repressing the CREB-specific coactivators, CRTC1-3. Snf1lk2 isactivated by phosphorylation on Thr-175 by STK11 in complex with STE20-relatedadapter-alpha (STRAD alpha) pseudo kinase and CAB39.
