Background: CBX8 (UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot entry Q9HC52) is a component of the polycomb group PRC1-like multiprotein complex. This complex is required to maintain the transcriptionally repressive state of many genes, including Hox genes, throughout development. It mediates monoubiquitination of histone H2A Lys-119, which leads to recruitment of PRC2 and methylation of H3K27 and H3K9.
